Tip for keeping your email address safe when using the internet.

If you are concerned about your email address when purchasing online, signing up to forums, newsletters, social networks or other online activity; there are some useful tricks you can do to control spam.

• Use a different email address that are just for online sites.
  Getting free email addresses is easy these days with hotmail, gmail etc. Why not create a free email account that you can provide to online sites separate to your general use email. This way you can read that email when you want, but your general purpose email account won't get clogged up with unwanted mails.
• Utilise the "plus addressing" available from some email accounts such as gmail.
  This is a good trick for automatically filtering emails yet they still come into your general purpose email account.
  For example if your gmail address is happy@gmail.com you can use happy+facebk@gmail.com in your Facebook account. Any mail sent to happy+facebk@gmail.com will still arrive to you happy@gmail.com account, but it is automatically filtered. This is another good trick for seeing who sold you out. Be aware that "plus addressing" isn't supported by all online forms or email platforms.
